Photoshop tutorials: Animation basics

It's so simple to create an animation with Adobe Photoshop and Image Ready. Before I start to teach you fading animations and such things I'll show you the basics of Image Ready relationg to making animations. This time I use an 100x100px avatar as an example. My result looks like this:

1. For this animation I created four different on the scale of 100x100px. Do the very same and make sure every of these icons is on one layer. Put the layers in one window. Now it has to look like THIS.

push to open Image Ready2. Now you have to change from Photoshop into Image Ready by using the button at the bottom of the Tools-window.

3. After loading Image Ready your program should now look like THIS. Look at the screenshot I made to get to know how to open the windows you need. Make sure the following windows are visible: Layers, Animation and, of cause, your Icon-file. Maybe you'll need a few minutes to understand the funtion of the different windows.

4. Take a closer look at the Layers-window, now. Because we want to make an animation we need some different steps. The first layer in the Layer-window is also the first layer we see at our animation. That's why you have to make all but the layer at the bottom invisible, by making a click at the eye.

5. Go to the Animation-window. The layers here are called "Frame". At the first Frame you have to see now a preview of the bottom layer (because you made the others invisible). Create a new Frame while using the button "Dublicate current layer". Go to Layer-window and make the layer second layer visible (at my example it's the naruto-layer).

6. Do the same with the other layers. As you can see making animations is a cycle of dublicating frames and making layers (in)visible.

7. You're done, now, but in addition to the main-tutorials you've some other options:

- Changing the delay time
- Proving the animation by start it
It's damn easy, isn't it? Having a closer look at Image Ready will definitly help you to understand better how this program works and what're the special features. Take your time and despair if it doesn't work at the first time. If you want to get to know more of have some questions don't hesitate to send me an e-mail.

If you don't really know if you made everything right you can download the PSD-File. Open it in Image ready and you will see how it works.
